23.03.2023 News

Hi Everyone

The sun is setting on the summer season, with our last Club day and patrols experiencing their last patrols of the season.

Thank to all our patrolling members as the season begins to wind up. Patrolling is core business. No loss of life is ‘the’ key reason for us being where we are.

Thank you to our patrolling members. On behalf of the Board, Executive and Club in general, thanks for your service this season

But in some areas, its early days yet, especially in the competition arenas. More to come.

Nipper State Championships

The final WA State Championship Carnival took place at Trigg Island last week, with the Nippers event.

As has been the case across the season Mullaloo was extremely well represented with Club Caps active across all arenas. Some wonderful performances across the board – with effort, commitment, and fun on show. Well done to all our young athletes

As always, many thanks to all the Administrators, Officials, Water safety, Managers, AGM’s across the board.

Mullaloo certainly punched well above our weight, with Dawn Jones producing a figure that our Club provided around 50% of Officials and Administrators across the beach. Say no more!!

The wind up at the Club on Sunday evening was also excellent. I really enjoyed seeing all the athletes with their medals, reading out results, coming forward to celebrate their season, saying ‘thanks’ etc. Drew Brown (one of several young-ish AGM’s across the Nipper division) certainly has a job waiting for him on the public speaking circuit.

Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships

The Aussies are here – literally. Anyone who has been to / or through Scarborough and Trigg will know that everything is ready to go (or nearly).

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone compete against athletes from across the country in the coming week or so.

All the best to all of you. Simply ‘do your best’. Being satisfied and content with your performance is enough, if more comes then great – go for it !!

Most importantly, compete hard and fairly. Interactions should be always cordial and respectful. Adults and children should also respond appropriately to officials and other athletes.

Port to pub

Congratulations to all the Club members who swam as individuals or teams in the annual Port to Pub. Another amazing race across the channel to Rotto. Well done!

Accessibility and Inclusion at Mullaloo beach

Just a brief update regarding Accessibility at Mullaloo, and in particular the beach mat.

We have some marvelous Accessibility and Inclusion resources at Mullaloo, which our Surf Club plays a crucial role in maintaining

We have, in particular, a highly dedicated team of Club officers and volunteers who assist with this. This includes a wonderful “Mat Maintenance” crew who have throughout out the season, from October onwards, met regularly (almost daily) to look after the mat. I am aware this job brings great joy, but also great frustration.

The weather throws up all sort of challenges throughout the year and ongoing and sustained intervention from front loaders and bob cats is often needed and required.

The Club is in ongoing negotiations with the CoJ to arrange a MOU which seeks to address some of these big-ticket items such that the load on our members is reduced.

We will let you know when we have some final details in relation to this

Complaints process

The nature of a large organisation is that every now again members will have complaints and grievances about Club matters and others. It’s an unfortunate reality of such a large organisation of over 2000 people !!

Under the SLSA Member Protection policy, the process for making and addressing certain categories of complaints is driven by the SLSA Complaint Resolution Policy (https://www.mybeach.com.au/app/uploads/2021/03/Policy-6.06-Complaints-Resolution-.pdf

An important element of this is the nature of the complaint(s), the policy clearly defines this and outlines the process to be followed.

It should be noted that this policy is part of the SLSA Member Protection Policy, which gives you some idea about the nature of complaints that will typically be made under this policy.

Mullaloo SLSC’s Complaint Officer is Craig Bull and can be contacted at

He is logged as such with SLSA.

I do not want to restrict complaints, but simply point out that if you have issues with Club facilities, processes, functions, etc, that are of an administrative or pragmatic nature, please address these politely and appropriately to the relevant Club Officers / Office and / or through me at

However, if the matter goes to incidents relevant under the Member Protection Policy, as related to the SLSA Complaint Resolution Policy and definitions within this, please follow those guidelines and or contact our Complaints Officer

Ok, all the best to everyone

Cheers Andy
