Message from Andy…

Great demonstrations of skill and effort

16.03.2023 News

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well

Sunsmart Open and Youth State Championship

I need to start with congratulations to everyone who was involved with the Sunsmart Open and Youth State Surf Championship at Scarborough last weekend, following on from the Masters and Beach events the previous weekends

It was a magnificent display of organisation, skill and commitment by all from our Club, be it athlete, manager, official, water safety, administrator and so.

We had great numbers across the beach (massive surf sports teams and surfboat crews – 9 crews in all) and everyone should be proud of their efforts.

There were some amazing performances across the age groups and levels. Great demonstrations of skill and effort.

Some brought home medals, some brought home improvement, all (from what I saw) brought home achievement (at whatever level they aspire to).

There will be more reports through the enews of various age groups etc.

Thanks to Surf Lifesaving WA and the various sponsors lead by Sunsmart. Onwards and upwards towards Aussies in two weeks time.

Best of luck to all who are involved in the forthcoming Nippers State Championships this coming weekend. Nippers especially, do your best and work hard, and please say ‘thank you’ to officials, managers and your parents.

Woodside Nippers

I would like to formally acknowledge our commitment and support for the Woodside Nippers programme and thank the company for their commitment to the surf lifesaving movement, and this specific programme.

There has in recent weeks been some commentary around the nature of this partnership. As the Woodside Nipper Club of the Year, we acknowledge the support and the programme goal to support young people to make new friends, gain water confidence and develop vital surf skills.

A focus on Education

As per recent weeks, we have been running a series of articles on education awards, so you are informed and, we hope, consider pursuing something that suits you and your family.

This week we have a very timely focus on the Training and Education Pathway. The Club’s Education Committee is always keen to support and mentor new educators. Please consider some of the following in support of the club

Training Officer. Courses are offered by SLSWA and candidates are mentored at Club level, completing a Logbook of prescribed activities and experience. Candidates must be 16 years old on the day of final assessment.

Assessor. Courses are offered by SLSWA to members who have qualified as a Training Officer and who have completed a specific period and scope of experience. Candidates then complete a Logbook of prescribed activities and experience. Candidates must be 18 years old on the day of final assessment.

Facilitator. Experienced Assessors are selected by the state body (SLSWA) and are able to carry out both training and assessment of candidates for specific awards. Candidates complete a Logbook of prescribed activities and experience before the award is confirmed.

Have a great week

Regards Andy
