Message from Club President, Andy

Some changes in the Club structure

06.07.2023 News

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations

Firstly, I would like to congratulate all those who were nominated for the SLSWA awards, which culminated with the ceremony at Crown last weekend.

Congratulations to: Jacqui McGregor, Mark Hills, Isaac Crothers, Jude Harlow, Soraya Lee, Guy Edwards and Stuart Ketteringham.

We are very proud of your contributions and achievements across the seasons. It looked like a great event and a worthy way of celebrating the season.

Some changes are afoot in our Club structure

You will find at the this link, EOI details for several roles in our Club. This follows several members standing down after long periods of service and/or those who are off on travels and adventures.

We have taken the opportunity to have a think about a few elements of our current Executive and Managers structure. Therefore, I can let you know of a few changes.

Some are semantic and refer to changes of name/title to better reflect the nature of the role, others try to align roles and portfolios in a more appropriate way. Finally, a couple of new roles that present exciting opportunities for the Club.

Firstly, we have re-badged/re-named the current General Manager (GM) Operations, to the new ‘GM Lifesaving Services’. This includes the important portfolios of Education and Lifesaving (itself).

Secondly, we have condensed some elements and added another to the portfolio previously known as ‘Facilities’ and renamed it ‘GM Club Support Services’. Importantly ‘Membership’ will now come under this area, joining ‘Functions, Marketing-Admin, Accounts and Administration’, which will be predominantly led by our paid staff in the office.

Finally, GM Marketing will be re-badged as ‘GM Community Services’. Most of the raw/everyday marketing elements will be taken on by Marketing Admin position in the office. The ‘Community Services’ portfolio will continue to look after and support Manager Retail/Shop and Sponsorship. We also hope to introduce a ‘Community Engagement Manager’ with the aim of re-engaging with outreach through key stakeholders, such as schools and other community groups. Bridging the gap between the Club and community, in some areas.

For now, you will find EOI’s for the following position including Position Descriptions:

  • GM Lifesaving Services
  • GM Community Services
  • GM Club Support Services
  • Education Manager
  • Social Manager
  • Community Engagement Manager
  • Sponsorship Manager

These roles provide exciting opportunities to contribute and make an impact in the Club.

We have stripped back the Position Descriptions, remembering that GM roles, in particular, are supported by Managers, and others who have agreed to take on elements of the portfolio.

The premise is that portfolios are working together as teams and groups to support each other. There is never any assumption that the various ‘responsibilities’ (jobs) are carried out by one person alone, rather leading other Club members keen to contribute and willing to take on ‘jobs’, working as a team, the sum total of which are the portfolio.

Please take time to consider these roles and consider how you might help support the Club.

Please feel free to enquire and ask questions about the different roles. Members of the Board and current GM’s will be more than happy to answer these.

That’s it for now,

Thanks Andy
