Winner of the Bernie Kelly Medal
The Bernie Kelly Medal is presented for the most outstanding performance by a competitor, or competitors, at the 2023 SunSmart WA Surf Life Saving Championships.
The namesake of this award, Bernie Kelly, is recognised as the first ever West Australian surf sports competitor to win an Aussie title, the Belt Race, in 1947.
She is the first member of Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club who has won in this category with many finalists in the past.
Soraya’s exceptional performance at the 2023 SunSmart WA Surf Life Saving Championships resulted in an impressive collection of medals. She claimed three individual gold medals in the open category and added a gold medal and three bronze medals in various team events. While Soraya is recognized for her prowess in surf racing, her standout achievement came in the highly regarded ironwoman event. Her remarkable performance in this blue-ribbon event showcased her skills and determination.
