Message from the President

November is calling and the Club is a hive of activity...

03.11.2022 News

Hi Everyone,

I hope you have had a good week.

Lots of activity again last week, throughout various parts of the club. Albeit the weather on Sunday for the young ones was a bit ‘off’.

Club positions and roles

I am happy to inform the club that Sandy Clarke has agreed to continue as the MSLSC’s Deputy President. Thank you Sandy for continuing in this role.

The Board of Directors are also delighted to approve and welcome Bec Waddell to the role of Surf Sports Competition Manager. Sam Hill will be supporting Bec through the co-ordination of Youth Competition. Also in the Surf Sport portfolio, Gemma Jones will be taking on the Surf Sports Events Manager role. Many thanks to these folk for taking on these important Surf Sports positions.

Last weekend…

Great to see 40+ Bronze Medallion candidates (mostly young members) down at the beach last week, taking steps towards volunteer patrolling

It was another big Competition week for the various competition groups in the club. The Boat crews were out for a second weekend in a ‘row’, so their season is well underway through the Navy competition and the State Endurance championships. Likewise, many surf sports athletes young and old(ish) took place in the State Endurance Championships as well. In both instances we were well represented on the medal and hard work ‘podiums’. Thanks to all competitors and support (GM’s, Managers, Volunteers, helpers) for representing our club. Numbers were great and we were well represented in many different ways.

Swell Restaurant

I just wanted to take a little space to inform members about Friday and Sunday night meals at the club through our partners Swell.

Swell, like all hospitality venues are under the pump in terms of staff and capacity currently. Add to this, the trusty pizza oven is currently out of action while a part is delivered.

So, in short, for the foreseeable future the arrangements on a Friday and Sunday night are these. Swell will take orders from 5 to 6.30pm, thereafter service to the club may need to cease for a period. Noting that every effort will be made to avoid this if possible. I have agreed to these conditions. As such we will make every attempt to warn members especially on a Friday night around 6.15 to alert members to the 6.30 timing. Hence, if you and the family would like to order from their menu, be sure to order before 6.30pm.

Patrol

Thanks to the Patrol captains for the great start to the season. There have been good to very good numbers on patrol – our core business. Thanks to Nathan Vartesi for managing the new uniform roll out.

Club reminders

The Club surf shop is on fire, with sales through the roof. If you want Christmas presents, there is a great variety for everyone.

Apologies, but a couple of reminders:

  1. When in the Club lounge, please can we ask that you return your glasses to the bar and stack plates from Swell at the allocated table at the entrance.
  2. Please wear appropriate footwear in the Club. Please take care not to bring ‘too much sand’  into the venues. Parents, a gentle reminder to your children about these rules would be helpful, thank you.
  3. Finally, most importantly: volunteer, help, raise your hand (sow up your pockets), say ‘yes’, look around at what you can do, help some more, ask what you can do, clear away stuff, look at rosters – if you are not on it ask ‘why’, Oh and say ‘yes’ ……………….  thanks!

Have another great weekend and hopefully Sundays weather will be kinder,

Regards Andy
