Message from Club President, Andy

Plenty still going on at the Club...

27.04.2023 News

Hi Everyone

I hope you have had the opportunity to take some rest over the Easter and school holiday period. Also, if you are a nipper or surf sport competitor  and / or parent, some rest following the busy State and Aussie Championship period.

Plenty still going on at the Club and attention turns to celebrating the season gone and some early preparations for the next summer season. While for the IRB racing section the season begins with training and competition on the horizon.

Robs Row and Chase the Ace

It was great to see so many members and friends down the Club last Friday to say goodbye to Rob Barton and take part in the Chase the Ace raffle.

Rob Barton is an active member of Mullaloo SLSC who is rowing from Western Australia to Africa in a solo and unsupported boat in a never before completed challenge that is expected to take between 5 and 7 months. He is raising money for the mental health charity zero2hero at https://www.zero2hero.com.au/about. Rob’s adventure can be followed through Facebook at Robs Row. It is an amazing adventure, and we wish him all the best. Travel Safe.

Regarding the Chase the Ace, the total of $2000 had to go. It was great to see Jackie Martin, take out the cash and even better that Jackie very kindly donated $1000 to Rob’s adventure.

Strategic Plan

The Clubs strategic plan 2020 – 2024 (https://www.mullaloosurf.com.au/macwp/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/2020-24-Strat-Plan-Short-Version.pdf) comes up for review this year and renewal into 2024. The process will begin with a number of activities in the coming months, including a Life Members forum; Members and survey and forum; and Board of Directors, General Managers and Managers review.

Outside some of these more formal activities and events members are welcome to chat and or ">contact me with thoughts and ideas about directions for the Club.

All this in the context of ‘our Club’ which is a non-for profit and based on Volunteerism. Indeed, the nature and scope of ‘Volunteerism’ may indeed be one area for consideration in this reviewed and revise Strategic Plan. So, please if you have ideas, which fall within the definition of Strategic Directions feel free to contact me and I would love to discuss and get your views

Security

Just to update members. We have added the Gym and various access points leading to it to the Gallagher Security system (you will need a members fob to access this area). This is an important upgrade to the Club’s security and access arrangements and is a further upgrade to the system which has seen significant and important improvement and investment in the last year or so.

All the best for the coming weeks

Regards Andy
