Summer break and the business end of the season

18.01.2024 News

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well.

Summer break and the business end of the season

The summer holidays have brought much activity down at the beach. It has been wonderful to see so many young members taking advantage of the various and plentiful Education offerings and different surf sport activities available over the holiday period.

Thank you to the Education and Lifesaving portfolios for running the range of opportunities, and for various volunteers for helping with surf sessions.

We are moving into the business end of the surf sport season. There is lots and lots of work that goes into organising the events that are coming up. Please make things easy/easier for our Managers and Coaches by being planned and getting aspects like entries, water safety rosters and gear arrangements sorted.

Best of luck to those heading to Geraldton for the Country Carnival. It’s a great opportunity to compete hard, enjoy the beach and get in some all-important socialising.

Beach Access Mat

I was at the club early this week and saw Nat Godwin helping a member of the community down to the beach in the access wheelchair.

It was another great example of the service the mat provides. The Mat is a challenge to maintain (to say the least), and while it is a community service, and we house the gear and resources, it is a community facility managed by us.

The club is proud to have this resource available for the community, but there is a ‘but’. We have an amazing but small group of dedicated helpers who look after the maintenance of the mat. One of many groups who give up time to assist with important community service(s). I know they get great satisfaction from seeing the mat utilised, as per Nat’s example.

The group would appreciate some further support. If you have some time to support the group in the maintenance of the mat in the mornings during the summer, please contact the club and they will put you in contact with the appropriate people, thanks.

An eventful set of circumstances this week with the closure of Mullaloo beach following an algae bloom.  The club always takes its lead and advice from the relative authorities including CoJ and SLSWA. We will be guided by them regarding our activities and resume when appropriate.  Thanks for your understanding.

A reminder about the Special General Meeting tomorrow evening at 6pm.

See you there,

Andy
