Message from Andy…

Plenty planned for the coming weeks ahead...

19.01.2023 NewsUncategorised

Hi Everyone

Another busy week for the Club last week. Plenty planned for the coming weeks ahead whether it be in the Eastern states, country locations or at home at Mullaloo.

Again, this week, I just want to highlight some events and roles within our surf Club (that went on last week or recently) that some, but not all will be aware of.

Abalone Patrol and Water Safety

A massive thank you to Manager of Lifesaving, Nathan Vartesi and his team for organising the Abalone patrol last weekend. Mullaloo Surf lifesaving Club provides the service to the public on the various Abalone dates across the summer. This can be highly challenging patrol tasks. Thanks to those who patrolled on the ocean and land last weekend looking after the general public seeking Abalone. It is a service that often goes unnoticed as it typically takes place north of the Ocean Reef Marina on the reefs between there and Burns Beach. Many thanks to patrolling members who provided this service last weekend and across the season.

That said a general thank you to members who provide water safety across the array of events that the Club provides services for. Some of these are Club events, while others such as Triathlons (as per last Sunday) and Ocean swims, service the general public more broadly. Again, thank you to those members who provide this voluntary service on behalf of the Club.

Carnivals and events

All the best to our Touring team that are heading East to compete in the annual Manly / Freshwater carnival this coming weekend. It’ll be a great experience for our 20 or so athletes. Thank you to the managers, coaches and parents who are accompanying the team. Best of luck to everyone.

Congratulations to our State Representatives who were part of WA’s successful Super Surf League and Intestate campaign last weekend in Maroubra, NSW. In the actual Interstate competition WA came 3rd behind surf powerhouses Queensland and NSW, which was a great achievement. While in the National Super Surf League on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, one of the WA teams (The Sunsets) came 2nd overall.

Last Sunday, I headed up to Quinns/Mindarie to see a brilliant turn out at the Little Nippers carnival. There were lots of Mullaloo caps across the beach and some great participation in both the water and on the beach track. On Saturday, the Seniors headed to Secret Harbour for a carnival. See reports for both elsewhere in the enews

Officials

A feature of these carnivals is always the Officials. Thanks to those Officials who take the time to travel (especially to Secret Harbour) and fulfil Mullaloo commitments, often without any family members competing. Like water safety, we literally cannot compete without our allocation of Officials, so thanks to the trusty band of Officials that carry out this task for the Club. Please thank them when you get the chance.

Have a great week

Regards Andy
