Success in Lorne!

Stormbringers sailed through their heats on Saturday to make the Quarter finals.

26.02.2024 Surf Sports

What shaped out to be amazing conditions at the Australian Surf Rowers League (ASRL) Open in Lorne, Victoria, saw two of our U19 crews (Mermaids & Stormbringers) take part with great results and took home a wealth of knowledge & experience.

On Thursday, Stuart Clarke (Sweep) assisted Fremantle to take the silver medal in the female 160+ age category in the Masters.

On Friday, the Stormbringers (plus Steven Part/Sweep) represented WA Suns in the U19 male category. Defending their #1 title from last season, the boys put in an amazing dig against quality opposition to finish an impressive 4th!

They teamed up with the U23 WA suns crews to finish 6th in the “U19/U23 Relay”.

Then backed it up again in the “All Category Relay” to have WA Suns finish 3rd place!

Saturday saw the Mermaids (Plus Duncan Gemmell/Sweep) start their campaign in the U19 female category. Finishing 3rd, 3rd & 4th in their heats, impressing onlookers with their “Wave of the day”, 380m from the turning buoy back to the beach! Unfortunately just missing out on the Quarter finals (based on countback).

They then backed it up with an Impressive 5th place in the final of the all new “U17” category!

Stormbringers sailed through their heats on Saturday to make the Quarter finals.

Sunday saw the Stormbringers rally through the QF, 1st SF, then pulled a miraculous wave in the 2nd SF to shoot them into the finals, where they finished 6th place in Australia!

The crews were humbled to know that their fellow club members had rallied behind them watching all their races live on YouTube back in WA.

A huge thank you must go out to Paul & Nikki Barrett for towing the boat to & from Victoria, plus Sandy Clarke for helping with the WA Suns & officiate the event.

Thank you also to our sponsor “Pauline Lyon at Peard Realty”.

A busy time of the season will now see the Surf boats finish their final round (#6) in Lancelin this weekend, before a flurry of state championships in March.
