Message from Club President, Andy

It was a great club effort and thank you to everyone who lead and helped across the weekend. It is really appreciated.

22.02.2024 News

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well.

Last weekend and Déjà vu for this weekend.

Thank you to everyone who helped and assisted at last weekends Nippers Qualifiers and regular Club events, including Sunday club day and Patrols at Mullaloo.

Reports are of good numbers of volunteer helpers setting up and down and carrying out various other roles. It was a great club effort and thank you to everyone who lead and helped across the weekend. It is really appreciated.

Déjà vu. To a lesser extent it all happens again this weekend, with the Little Nippers Championships at Mullaloo. Please make every attempt to support the organisers again.

Mullaloo Stormbringers and Long journey

Congratulations to our boat crews the Mullaloo Stormbringers (who represented the U19 WA Suns) and the Mullaloo Mermaids (U19 Female) who rowed at the Australian Surf Rowing League (ASRL) Open in Lorne, Victoria (hold that thought!!). Well done both crews and great effort. Hopefully, you enjoyed the experience.

Yes Lorne, Victoria!! Hence, equally impressive is the 40-hr x 2 drive  (there and back) made by club members and proud parents Nikki & Paul Barrett who towed the trusty Mullaloo Muttley surf boat over to Lorne for our crews to take part in the event. Thanks Nikki & Paul, I hope the marriage nuptials survived the trip.

This weekend sees Mullaloo boat crews of all sorts compete again in the Navy/ ASRL WA Surf Boat Series, round 6. Good luck to all.

A few updates from the Board

Board representatives and Club General Managers have begun the 2024/25 budgeting process, with a view to progressing a longer-term budgeting process (2 – 3 years) and integrate some items that typically appear in Capital Expenditure requests into this budgeting cycle.

Our Clubroom lease with the City of Joondalup has been finalised for a further five years (as is standard) and in turn the lease with SWELL has been finalised. We are pleased to extend this successful partnership with SWELL.

Strategic planning. Feedback from various stakeholders across the club has been reviewed with view to having a draft of a new revised and ongoing plan in the next month or two. This will build on recent plans and the successful outcomes (see Scorecard in the 2023/24 Annual report).

HR – To rationalise our approach and satisfy new industrial legislation, the Club has changed some of its systems and controls for paid employees.  This includes Auspice Trainers, Bar Managers and Casuals, Coaches and Water Safety Personnel. In most cases there have been no changes to pay arrangements. Invoicing has been replaced by new contract and payroll requirements.

Thanks to Des Huxtable who has taken on the Sponsorship Manager role.

Ok that its for now. Thanks again for all those active around the club.

Regards Andy
