Message from The President

Mullaloo hosts the Nipper Qualification Carnival this weekend...

16.02.2023 News

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well with you and yours.

Education and Lifesaving Awards

One of the key features, if not the key feature, of surf lifesaving is patrol service. Not surprisingly, everyone who patrols needs to have an appropriate qualification (in surf lifesaving we call them Awards), e.g. Bronze Medallion, Surf Rescue Certificate, First Aid, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques as well as a range of power craft awards. This qualification needs to be maintained, that is, an annual Skills Maintenance assessment is required in order to remain current. Surf lifesaving qualifications form the basis of surf lifesaving activities, including surf sports, also known as competition. Eligibility to compete also requires completion of a specified number of patrolling hours in order to enter state and national events including Championships.

SLSA and SLSWA offer a range of awards – there is something for everyone!

Mullaloo Surf Lifesaving Club provides education and skills maintenance in the majority of awards on offer, on an annual basis. The Club has a dedicated Education Committee providing leadership and development of members in training and assessing roles. Mullaloo Trainers and Assessors also provide support to other clubs across the state in a variety of roles including mentoring.

So – how much do you know about the awards on offer? Is there one, or more, award/s that interest you, either as part of contributing to the club, or broadening your skill set?

In coming editions of eNews we will run a series of articles on education awards, as well as the processes involved, so you are informed and, we hope, consider pursuing something that suits you and your family.

SunSmart Nippers Qualifier as part of the State Lifesaving championships

Mullaloo hosts the  Nipper Qualification Carnival this weekend. There will be lots of activity and action across the weekend in support of this event (as well as normal club day for those not involved). To our Nippers competitors, all the best, try hard and enjoy yourself. ‘The more you put in, the more you’ll get out’, but whatever you do, have fun and enjoy.

For parents and supporters, please take every opportunity to help and assist organisers and officials as the days play out across the weekend. They are all Volunteers, helping the children be as best they can.

Carnivals galore

Well done to our crews who competed for WA and Mullaloo at the 2023 ASRL Open in Bulli NSW. It sounded like tough and freaky weather conditions (winds, heat). It is great to see the Club represented at State level across the disciplines for Beach, Surf and Surfboats in recent weeks.

The State Championships keep on coming. Last Saturday Mullaloo featured strongly in various surf sports and lifesaving events at Trigg SLSC (see reports elsewhere). Well done to all of you who competed. Participation is the key.

On Sunday masters, seniors and youth returned to Trigg for a good old fashioned carnival. Again, Mullaloo had an excellent turnout and again performed really well across the disciplines and age groups. This seems to be a trend. Well done to all

Club Shop

One of our key services at the club is the Mullaloo shop. Like most things this in run by volunteers, across all its opening sessions (some of which are not overly sociable for those volunteering) . It’s a great and vital service to our members. Club essentials (caps etc) are sold at cost. Its great to see members in their various club colours and items on the beach over the State Championship period. Keep sticking your head into the shop as the season progresses, have a look at what’s available, and while your there say a thank you to the folks serving you

That’s it for now. Have a good one

Regards Andy
