Message from Club President, Andy

Winter activities are well underway, while some late summer events are finishing up

02.05.2024 News

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well

While the traditional summer surf lifesaving club activities are now behind us for a few months, there has been plenty of activity happening at our club,

This Enews tells stories of our club members efforts and achievements at ‘The Aussies’ (The Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships) in Maroochydore, Queensland. Some great conditions allowed for some exciting and challenging racing. If you have not caught upon these yet, most of the days are still available on SBS on Demand or the SLSA Facebook.

Things never stop!

Winter activities are well underway, while some late summer events are finishing up. It was great to see many members take on the Waterman’s to the Wall open water swim run by Sorrento SLSC last weekend and the Pool rescue competitors are underway with their preparations.

It was great to see the IRB teams get the competitive season underway at Coogee last weekend, and the Surf Boat section have been out and about with our members leading Sweep School events and other Ocean Rowing activities. The youth section had a great summer wind up at the beach volleyball centre in North Beach.

Thanks to everyone for organising and leading these activities. No doubt there are other things happening and I appreciate everyone’s efforts in providing these activities, events and services to members and the community.

Officials at the Aussies

In mentioning the Aussies, I would like to acknowledge all our members who travelled to Maroochydore to act as Officials at the event, some in crucial safety and operational positions. The Aussies stretches for 10 days or so across two weekends (we had members on the beach across the whole period of the championships) and is a major commitment. Not only the hours per day on the beach, but financially as well (travel, accommodation etc, is all self-funded). Thanks to everyone who travelled in this capacity. The Club very much appreciates your time, energy and expertise, and hope that you enjoyed the experience.

Annual dinner

Again, elsewhere in this Enews you will find details of the club Annual Awards Dinner coming up in May. This evening is a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individuals, teams and groups across the club. Also say thank you to key community supporters such as our sponsors and community advocates.

Tickets are heavily subsidised by the club ($45 adults, $30 Youth), and we hope as many members as possible can join us on the evening. In advance, please note that we do have a venue limited (there is only so much space) so please get in early to secure your tickets.

Ok that’s it for now

Regards Andy
