Welcoming Alistair, Nathan and Simon to the Board

17.08.2023 News

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting a week or two ago.

It was great to see so many members attend and engage in our clubs most formal meeting.

It is the sign of a healthy club that we debate issues important to our club. Ones that impact us now and into the future.

I encourage this healthy debate and I am always happy to chat with members about that.

Important in this debate is that members broaden their knowledge base of the club, hence please take time to look at the Annual Report and become familiar with not only the successes and activities of our club, but also the functions (including governance, finance, etc)

The better informed the membership are, the better our club is.

It was great to welcome three new members to our Club’s Board of Directors. Well, ‘new’ in the sense of not being part of the Board last year, because our former President Alistair Cook has again volunteered to support the club through a Director’s role. I am very grateful for Al’s support; he will be a major asset over the next two years (minimum)

We welcome Nathan Vartesi, who many will know through Ski Coaching and his tremendous work as Lifesaving Manager over the last year or so. He will bring great insight on the ground from these previous roles and contributions. Like many Nathan brings multiple skills through his work in business.

We also welcome Simon Foley. Simon has been highly active in the youth space, where his family reside now (in regards children’s age). It is great to get some ‘younger’ eyes on the issue of the club, and also the broader skills that Simon brings from his professional work.

Thank you to Jacqui McGregor and Emma Bamforth, who join me in fulfilling our second year of tenure on the Board.

Most significantly, we said goodbye (in Board terms) to Sandy Clarke, Guy Edwards, and Pam Bubrzycki. All have given wonderful service to the club over the last few years on the Board and indeed for many years regarding the club as a whole. This is in multiple areas, and we very much hope that they will continue to volunteer in some area or other – that brings them joy and satisfaction. Thank you again for your contributions.

We hope to have some more announcements soon, regarding General Managers and Manager positions, as we move toward the new season.

Finally, I would like to give my congratulations to those who took part in the Avon descent over the weekend. It’s always great to see plenty of Surf Clubbers names in the results sheet. Well done to all our members (past and present) who finished the gruelling challenge.

Ok, that’s it for now.

See you around.

Regards

Andy
