Congratulations Wes Gould on an outstanding result finishing 7th in this year’s Elite category of the Coolangatta Gold Endurance Ironman Event on the Gold Coast.

Wes has been a member and competitor for Mullaloo throughout his nipper days into his youth years and has represented our club at national titles and in multiple state teams before moving to QLD and his second club in Kurrawa SLSC. Now competing for Kurrawa while he is in QLD, completing his Chiropractic degree and chasing his dream of success at the highest level in the Kellogs Nutrigrain Iron Series. After moving over there a last year he was rewarded with a wildcard entry into last season’s Nutrgrain series and had an outstanding first-year finishing 11 overall.

The Coolangatta Gold is an endurance iron event that consists of a

  • 23km Ski paddle,
  • 1 km run,
  • 3.5km swim
  • 6.1km Board paddle
  • And finished with a second run of 8.2km.

Wes finished 13th in the Elite field category of 29 in 2019 with a time of 4hrs 20mins and 46 sec. The event was cancelled in 2020 due to covid. This year in the 2021 event he finished 7th in the Elite field category with a time of 4hrs 11 mins and 30 sec.

Wes had these comments on the race:

“I had a great preparation which was helped by the extended time with the race being moved back a month”

He has been working hard with his coach and Ironman legend Ky Hurst to ensure he is developing speed for the upcoming Nutrigrain Series trials while keeping his training volume up for the Gold.

After the race Wes said:

“The Race was a grind in flat and hot conditions but I felt good considering how brutal the Gold can be”

Having a good training plan and executing the plan has set Wes up for a good crack at a second season in the Nutrigrain Series with the trials only 5 weeks away. His attention will now change from endurance to speed training as he finalises his preparations.

“I’m really excited for the trials which I think my gold training has prepared me for perfectly.”

We wish Wes all the best from the west for his upcoming trials.
