Australian Access Award Finalist

Top three finalists in the Initiative of the Year Award category

The Beach Access Working Group run in partnership between, City of Joondalup Mullaloo Surf Lifesaving Club and APM Communities was nominated this year for an Australian Access Award. These awards held by the Australian Access Institute recognise those creating accessible environments that deliver independence for everyone.

The Beach Access Working Group last night at ANZAC House was named one of the top three finalists in the Initiative of the Year Award category. Following on from the group’s annual, Community Inclusion Beachside Event hosted by Mullaloo Surf Life Saving on the 12 November, 2023 at Tom Simpson this was perfect acknowledgement of the working groups commitment to creating accessible environments.

The Community Inclusion Beachside event was one of the biggest held to date, opened by Major Albert Jacobs. Inspirational guest speakers Madison Heady, a passionate advocate, educating the community on disability and Karen Harvey from Spinal Life Australia, highlighted the importance of inclusion.

Activities plus where on offer for everyone to have a go. There was Rebound WA wheelchair basketball, Reds seated volleyball, Hockeyroos and Kookaburra athletes, Carers WA, the Periscope Group, Kierans Cans, Erins Enterprises Art Work, Disabled Surfing WA, COJ Youth Service activities and free sausage sizzle, COJ Community Development Access and Inclusion, APM Communities, Mullaloo Surf Life Saving and music by DJ Incredible.
