Mermaids and Stormbringers bring home medals
Sorrento Beach was the venue for the 2024 Short Course Surf Boat Championships on Sunday 3rd & it seemed to bring all Perth clubs & crews out to the surface.
We had 7 crews compete in 4 categories.
The shorter format of the course brings out a faster pace of rowing, leaving little margin for error.
With a strong NE wind early on, this caused issues & fatigue in some of the crews as they turned the buoys and headed back to the beach.
On a flat short track, technical detail & strength were vital to winning heats & progressing into the semi’s.
The Mermaids & Makos contested the U19 female final with the mermaids claiming a silver medal,
Whilst the Stormbringers competed in the U19 male final, also claiming a silver medal!
The opens category (M+F) was a vicious cull after 3 rounds to progress to the semi-finals, with Usain Boat finishing 8th on points, then 5th in their semi.
Stormbringers finished 12th on points, then narrowly missing out on a final’s berth, finishing 4th in their semi.
