31.03.2021 News

Here is a little overview of each of the 10 recipients.

Jordin Barclay

Jordin provides a huge amount of support for Tanya Honor in her AGM role of the U11 girls. He does all of the admin work and organisation behind this group. He also does the AGM role at Carnivals – the work required before the day and managing the girls on the day. He also regularly volunteers for Water Safety. Leading up the busy part of the season with State Qualifications and States for the Nippers, he is providing board and board rescue coaching for the competition girls.

David Chadderton

David is always busy in the background, his kindness towards the children and thoughtfulness has been noticed for a while and it is time for him to shine. David has been doing water safety for board training the last 3 years, he is there every Saturday no matter what and if he sees I am short in the mid-week training he has come to help me. At the end on each session he is always taking the time to make sure everything is washed down and packed away. David has stepped in and coached the U8 and U9 when I was unable to, which was great and he is very knowledgeable and the children learnt a lot. David has helped with water safety every Sunday since his children have been in the club. David has been an active patrol member for years and also comes down to help with the Abalone and recently completed his IRB Drivers course. Thank you, David for always putting your hand up to help when needed.

Annika Crockford

Annika is probably our Mullaloo mermaid, she is always happy to get into the water regardless of the conditions. Annika does not have any children doing the training but she saw that we were needing water safety to get the nippers in the water and she has come down for the last 2 years every Monday and Wednesday to help with the mid-week training. Annika is also happy to coach the beginners, she has a lovely way of making the children feel comfortable in the water and is always smiling and laughing giving the children encouragement. Annika is busy training the new bronze groups as a trainee trainer. Annika swims most days in groups and encourages anyone to join her. Annika has helped the social group setting up and packing up. On top of this she is our Retail Manager and does a wonderful job, she listened to what the seniors were wanting and got the Hibiscus range made which has been very successful and loves seeing everyone happy and wearing them. Thank you Annika for taking the time to listen and help others achieve their goals.

Phil Dee

Phil has been very generous with his time in taking any of our members wanting to do use our gym through a gym induction process. He has been flexible in times for these members and accommodating them where he could to get them involved. His diligence in conducting the inductions has been of a high standard ensuring all our qualified members have access to the gym and can use the facility in a safe manner.

Leah Dineen

During the 20/2021 season Leah has volunteered for an officiating role at many carnivals, namely: January – Nipper Carnival at Trigg; January – Little Nipper Carnival at Cottesloe; February – Nipper Carnival at Mullaloo; March – Nipper State Championships at Scarborough. A big thank you to Leah for giving up her time and providing valuable assistance to Senior Officials at these carnivals. We all know how busy and lengthy Nipper Carnivals can be, your help is much appreciated.

Linda Janjetic

Linda has ALWAYS done water safety every sunday for 3 years! This AMAZING woman gets up at 4.30am every sunday morning as she has to drive from the hills and loyally puts on that orange vest and commits to the water safety requirements every week. Linda has never complained about the role, always has a smile on her face and is very encouraging to the nippers.

Dawn Jones

For coordinating and running this seasons surf league rounds. Dawn managed, organised our athletes and their availability while liaising with the coaches to enter the strongest teams possible. This task was made all the harder with changes in the schedule due to our state lockdown which resulted in events being postponed. In addition, Dawn is often in the kitchen on a Friday before the carnivals baking muffins and preparing food for our athletes on the day of competition. The results were great with our open team Mullaloo Blue coming 3rd overall to claim the $2000 in prize money for our club.

Julie Rapley

Julie as events manager had the task of running and coordinating 7 events over two weekends. With the help of many club members she worked to host the following events Sunday 21 February, we hosted a Little Nipper carnival, the Nipper board rescue qualifiers and a full senior carnival. Saturday 27 February, we hosted the XTR Triathlon and Masters State titles Sunday 28 February, we hosted Country States Monday 1 March, Mullaloo Mile Ocean Swim. Julie had a huge amount of support from members in volunteering to do various roles which was fantastic for the club to pull together and work on these events but it did take one person to coordinate all these events and Julie did a great job in making all these events work together. The work of Julie with the assistance of all our members involved raised a significant amount of funds for our club expected to be excess of $15,000.

Sarah Truter

Sarah Truter – U12, who has been a huge help this year in managing the Sausage Sizzle all season. We couldn’t have done it without her. She has been at the club early every Sunday to help set up the sausage sizzle, carry rolls down, fetch the float and any other tasks to make sure we are set up and ready and she has stayed late to help pack up, wash dishes and reconcile the cash. She has done all of this with a smile and good enthusiasm.

Terry Upston

I’d like to nominate Uppy for volunteer of the month award. He’s an awesome boatie. He is always on the lookout for new rowers, ensuring the growth and continuation of the boatie traditions at MSLSC. He enlists, coaches, sweeps and mentors the young crews, and is a valuable member of the boatie family at the club. He also officiates at boat carnivals and is always there to lend support to crews. Thanks Uppy, guns up!
