Successful Rescue – Skills For Life

Recounted from a bystander:

17.08.2021 News

Another successful Winter rescue was carried out last Tuesday afternoon (August 17) at Mullaloo beach. This time by brave young members, Brodie Lee and Callum Foley, who saved the life of a 6ft adult male who was caught in a rip. Read more about the accounts of witnesses and the heroics of the boys below.

Without giving away too much information about our quiet, intensely private, brave and super amazing boy I will try and condense his story.

I was at Mullalloo beach a couple of hours ago, when I witnessed these two young boys (Brodie Lee and Callum Foley- young members of Mullalloo surf club) save the life of a 6ft adult man.

A very fit couple were swimming and both got stuck in a rip and were getting smashed by multiple waves. They were both screaming for help but unfortunately, their screams were not heard by many due to the sound of the crashing waves. The distressed woman emerged exasperated from the water screaming for help.

Luckily two young boys heard the screams while out on the water and went to the man’s rescue. One boy delivered the man after he fell off the board many times and went straight back out to ride the waves as nothing had happened.

I spoke to the male who got out and he said he could barely breathe and was scared for his life. He said he didn’t know what would have happened if they weren’t there. I waited for the boys to get out of the water to applaud them with some other bystanders who were amazed by their nonchalant heroism (while many stood and did nothing).

Thanks Amy 😊

It was seriously amazing to watch. I really don’t think they realised the gravity of what they had done. They were so cute. They just went back out in the surf. The couple were seriously concerned for their lives :) What champions! What great training you must provide! The Club should be super proud of themselves too! – Amy (Witness)
