National Sweep Academy Camp
Coaching successful boat crews
Coaching successful boat crews
On the weekend of 26th & 27th August, 6 Mullaloo members (Stu & Sandy Clarke, Steve Part, Duncan Gemmil, Darren Protzman & Maren Schriven) made part of the 90 sweeps from around Australia to attend the inaugural National Sweep Academy Camp at Palm Beach SLSC, NSW (or “Summer Bay” (for the Home & Away fans).
The attendees comprised of beginner sweeps through to the more experienced mentors, who gelled together to pick up/share different ideas, hone in on their own techniques & better understand how to coach a successful boat crew.
Although the weather conditions were a little “too perfect” (in a holiday sense), the flat conditions still gave all an opportunity to try & explore new ideas.
The evenings presented great opportunities to rub shoulders with all 3 Australian boat builders & well experienced sweeps to get valuable information to take back home.
WA represented the 2nd highest amount of attendees (behind NSW), proving the sport on the West Coast is in a healthy condition.
A big thank you to the Australian Surf Rowing League (ASRL) for organising the event & Palm Beach SLSC for hosting, providing quality accommodation, meals & equipment.
