IRB Crew Course

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations.

Course Dates:

• 21 January 2023, 8 – 11am
• 28 January 2023, 8 – 11am
• 4 February 2023, 8 – 11am

Assessments will take place on the 11 February 2023. Assessment extended to the fourth week due to the long weekend and country carnival.

Members need to be age 15 years or older and hold a Bronze Medallion to participate.

• Members to be assessed on theoretical knowledge
• Demonstrate effective and safe crewing practice and ability including:
  • Parallel running
  • Figures of eight
  • Response to signals
  • Negotiation of surf as required
  • Demonstrate casualty rescue to include both unconscious and conscious patients
  • Demonstrate ability to carry out a casualty lift, exit, carry and lay
