Community Inclusion Day – 27 November

Saturday 27 November 2021. Something for everyone! Hosted by Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club

04.11.2021 EventsNews

What do we mean by “inclusion”?

We believe it means ensuring that every member of the Club and our community is given the room and support to thrive. We are committed to building an environment and a Club with a wide range of activities and experiences that match the diversity of our community and that fulfil and empower people.

We believe in giving people a voice in how they would like to engage with the beach. Feeling included involves being genuinely welcomed and creating a sense of belonging. It is about understanding differences so that we can treat people with respect and care. Our society is more diverse than ever, with a greater range of ages, abilities and intentions. At Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club, we are continuing to learn how best to serve our community by improving our understanding of diversity and engaging in new ways.

We agreed to call the event the Club’s ‘Community Inclusion Day’ in celebration ahead of the United Nations International Day of People with Disability. This is a day to celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities and to promote awareness, understanding and acceptance in our community. It also coincides with Social Inclusion Week Australia, delivered and managed by Play It Forward, which encourages communities to reconnect and be inclusive of all cultures, age groups, nationalities and abilities.

At this inaugural Community Inclusion Day, we aim to reach out to our community more broadly than ever, with a range of new initiatives and methods of engagement. See what is on offer that may suit you…

Mullaloo Masters

With our proud history of 60 years of surf life saving and surf sports, we have a wonderful group of masters members who are ready to welcome you. Chat with representatives at our Community Inclusion Day to see where you might get involved.

Mullaloo Mariners

Our Mullaloo Mariners is a stand-alone program aiming to give young members with disabilities beach safety and water awareness skills. The program will be launched at the Community Inclusion Day and there will be activity stations to have a go at.

Inclusion Networks

Our Club aims to align with resource groups that reflect and model our inclusive culture, such as APM (Australia’s largest and most trusted Disability Employment Services provider), National Disability Insurance Service and Kookaburra Kids (empowering young people to thrive). Our goals are to raise awareness, develop leaders, build networks and be a valuable contributor to building community groups.

Integrated Delivery / Individual Support

Our approach is to integrate people with particular needs into our regular programs where possible. We are also creating the option of specialist support. Chat to Club representatives to explore what might suit your situation best.

Social Inclusion

Our Club has many activities that you may wish to be part of – we would love to discuss how these might best suit your circumstances. Speak to a Club representative on the day to explore the options.

Creating Flexible Options

We understand people have a range of financial capabilities and lifestyles. Our Club is keen to discuss what that means for you and to consider the options for your involvement.

Ask Me!

Our Club representatives will be wearing bright orange vests with “Ask Me” on the day, so you will know who to speak to!
