60th Anniversary Celebrations

Aligned with the finish of the Ted Scott Marathon, the Club held a significant commemorative celebration for all members of the foundation of the Club in 1961.

23.12.2021 Events

Invited guests included our Life Members, Past Presidents, current Management, our Patron Mayor Albert Jacobs, Caitlin Collins, MLA for Hillarys, Kay Langford, daughter of founding member Ted Scott, and founding member Margaret Cockman.

The Club was initially founded to commemorate local identity Jack Hastings whose untimely death affected many. Our two Club life saving reels each have a memorial plaque affixed, dedicated to Jack Hastings and Tony Martin, foundation Club President.

A plaque was unveiled, which is now displayed in the Club’s entrance hallway, to commemorate those “who had the foresight to establish a surf life saving club in October 1961 to provide surf rescue and water safety services to the local community.” Since those early days, our Club has grown in strength and now numbers 2300 members.

We hope that those who pioneered the advent of our great Club would be very proud of the success of the Club and the opportunities for life that members enjoy, as well as appreciating the devotion to community service that they provide every year on our beach.

A free sausage sizzle for all members was part of the family celebrations around the event, thanks to the mighty efforts of our sausage maestros, Mike Gigney and Mike Fort who coordinated the cooking of 1000 sausages on the day.
