Perfect Conditions for 2023 Dave Wilson Kahuna
Spectacular weather, fantastic organisation and an awesome group of participants made for another memorable Dave Wilson Kahuna. To quote Dave Wilson’s wife Yvonne, “this event reflects Dave’s ethos of fun, friendship and participation” and honours his considerable contribution to our club. David was awarded life membership in 2011 and was actively involved in patrolling, training, assessing and competing at the Master’s level.
Saturday’s Kahuna saw 43 competitors, ranging from some U14’s who had never paddled a Mal board before up to the Master’s group. Everyone definitely had fun and encouraged each other to complete the course. There were legends in every category.
Big shout out of thanks to all those involved in running this event. Thanks to Gemma Jones and Julie Rapley for registration. Special thanks to Cameron Rapley and the IRB crew for water safety and set up. Thanks also to the Jet Ski drivers and Jenni Wood on her surf ski for additional water safety.
