The Mullaloo Surf boat campaign at the Aussies 2023
The Mullaloo Surf boat campaign at the Aussies started on Tuesday in the Masters division with 3 crews taking part.
180+ Male – Rebels (Warren Robinson, Serhan Memik, Duncan Gemmell, Trevor Warland, Darren Protzman – sweep)
200+ Male – The Gents (Simon Brigham, Rob Galjaart, Stuart Clarke, Martin Fisk, Richard Calnon – sweep)
200+ Female – Marlins (Rachel Green, Alex Wells, Rachel Kremer, Sandy Clarke, Richard Calnon – sweep)
The Gents & The marlins both made the finals, with The Marlins bagging 2nd place to snare silver!
Thursday to Sunday saw 8 crews take part in Reserves, U23, U19 & Boat relays.
Reserve Female – Still Salty (Alexis Whelan, Maren Scriven, Rebecca Millar, Kat Faye, Isaac Crothers – sweep)
Reserve Female – Marlins (Rachel Green, Alex Wells, Rachel Kremer, Sandy Clarke, Richard Calnon – sweep)
Reserve & U19 Female – Little Mermaids (Molly Grant, Leah Dineen, Gabriela Leeks, Ash Firth, Duncan Gemmell – sweep)
U19 Female – Misfits (Taylah Miekle, Molly Bean, Sophie Mills, Ebony Millar, Stuart Clarke – sweep)
U23 Female – Usain Boat (Hannah Wells, Lowri Bishop, Elise Dagnia, Sophie Adeline, Stuart Clarke – sweep)
U19 Male – Stormbringers (Jack Grant, Jack Barrett, Jay Firth, Samuel Leeks, Duncan Gemmell – sweep)
Reserve Male – Wizards (Isaac Crothers, Luke Triston, Adam Sami, Stuart Clarke, Richard Calnon – sweep)
Reserve Male – Rebels (Warren Robinson, Serhan Memik, Greg Stewart, Jack Colbourne, Darren Protzman – sweep)
With a much larger contingent in these divisions, it was a difficult task to make it out of the heat stages with the exception of some of our rising stars in the U19 male & female categories!
The Little Mermaids made it through to Saturday’s quarter finals, unfortunately that’s where their campaign ended. Coached by Duncan Gemmell in their 1st year competing it was a magnificent effort! The girls are only 16 years of age in the U19 age category. They have a bright future & we look forward to seeing them next year!
The Stormbringers breezed through Saturday’s quarter finals to progress to Sunday’s Semi-finals. Being the 1st U19 Mullaloo crew to ‘Ever’ make it through to a Sunday at Aussies. They finished their campaign in 11th place out of 23 crews. Still with 2 years remaining in the U19 category, the future looks bright!
Fantastic effort by all. Who have all sacrificed family time & work, plus put in the hard work to take it to the nation’s best. Well done.
