Message from Club President, Andy

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in getting the first big weekend of the season underway last week. With the State Endurance championships (Boats, Surf and some Beach) on Saturday, it made for a significant start.

I really enjoyed seeing all our junior year groups U10 to Youths getting the Sunday Club Season underway. They all looked great, in their new gear and will be joined by our Nippers this weekend.

I took the opportunity to visit each group and welcome the kids to the season and encourage as many parents, guardian and carers to be present and involved in their children’s activities. I’ll continue this message this coming weekend, and hope that as many people as possible will get involved and assist with the Sunday activities.

Some general news items:

BEN signs

We will soon be having BEN signs on the beach side of the various pathways accessing our beach. BEN stands for Beach Emergency Number. The BEN system is a unique coding system designed to improve emergency response times by installing signs with unique numbers at beach access points. Each BEN sign has a unique code based on an area prefix followed by a one-to-four-digit number. This code is linked to the coordinates for the location of the sign. The official location name (if there is one), the address, suburb and nearest intersection are also on each sign. Thanks to the Lifesaving Services team across recent seasons for their ongoing work and advocacy for this project.

Downstairs Bathrooms Refurbishment

Nothing certain in this news, but an update. The club has continued to work with the CoJ designers / engineers in conceptualising the refurbishment of the clubs’ downstairs bathrooms. The long and the short is that we will lose room, due the requirements to have access for all. While this is a great addition it does squeeze space. Hence, we have proposed a couple of ideas that alters the nature of the access to the gym and bathrooms. These are all under review. Time will tell – but it is happening, and we are pleased to be engaging in the process.

Plenty happening this weekend again, and the season get into its mojo.

Chase the Ace starts this weekend – got to be in the room to win. Come down and enjoy the first card of the season being turned. Grab a drink and seat and settle in for the evening.
