Message from Andy…

Clubrooms and facilities update.

07.12.2022 Uncategorised

Hi Everyone

I hope all well

A fairly pragmatic message this week

Clubrooms – Downstairs changing room, bathrooms, drains etc – associated areas.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I just wanted to update you in regards to the Downstairs changing rooms, bathrooms, drains etc, at the Club. This has been an area of concern for some time, with various actions planned and considered.

The facility needs significant work done to upgrade the area, much of which would require major works to meet contemporary specifications including access ways, ventilation, etc. The drains and external ramp down to the courtyard also require attention as long term concerns.

Due to the extent of the work and the significant cost, various Mullaloo SLSC Boards and Building Committees have lobbied the City of Joondalup for support and commitment of funds.

Amidst this Covid arrived and all that came with that in terms of delays, etc.

While there has been an acceptance that some Club funds would need to be committed to the project, obviously we hoped that the City of Joondalup would provide the major funds.

So, I can update that the City of Joondalup has committed funds in the 2023 -24 Financial year for refurbishment scoping, engineering, and drawings. Thereafter, $800,000 has been committed in the capital works budget for refurbishment construction in 2024-25

While this is good news, it represents a considerable delay. As such, we will:

  • lobby the City of Joondalup to ensure that works are completed asap in the 2024 financial year, if not earlier, and;
  • consider a basic ‘refresh’ of the facilities ‘to tide us over’, while we wait.

Clearly, we are conscious of committing funds to a facility that will be likely gutted, but at the same time we understand the dire state of the facilities and the ongoing cost of maintenance.

So, that is just an update on news and our thinking at the moment. Feel free to call, email or catch up with me around the club if you have questions etc

Otherwise, looking forward to another weekend of carnivals, training, education courses, patrolling, sausage sizzles (it’s tradition), the chasing of the ace, Sunday mornings, etc, etc. Keep enjoying and saying ‘yes’.

Regards Andy
