29.06.2022 NewsEvents

More than 530 people representing 31 surf life saving clubs, and corporate and government partners, joined us at the SLSWA Annual Awards of Excellence on Saturday night at Crown Casino.

Congratulations to all our finalists & award winners, a special mention to Sandy Clarke, who will represent WA at the Surf Life Saving Australia Awards of Excellence later this year.

Mark Hills

SLSWA Life Membership

As a member of Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club, Mark has been involved in Surf Life Saving for 29 years and has had a significant impact on education and training in Western Australia.

Mark served as the North Metropolitan Training Consultant for eight years, assisting clubs in that region on all training and assessing matters. During that time, he worked collaboratively with other regions and SLSWA to ensure the consistency and development of training and assessing techniques across the state.

As an acknowledgement of the respect Mark has in the Education and Training area he is a three-time winner of the SLSWA Assessor of the Year Award. Being proficient in a variety of specialised awards Mark remains a sought-after facilitator and trainer mentor.

On top of his involvement in education and training, Mark sat on the Surf Life Saving WA Lifesaving Advisory Committee for six years, four of those as Chair. He has also played an important role in surf sports in WA, having been the Emergency Safety Officer at State Championships since 2011.

Congratulations Mark, who was formally inducted as a Life Member of Surf Life Saving Western Australia at the 2022 SLSWA Awards of Excellence.

Louis Cheeseman

Age Group Manager of the Year

Louis takes on the important role of looking after Mullaloo’s U14 & U15 cohort, providing structure and activities each Sunday morning. He has drawn upon his teaching background to create an environment that both challenges and engages the youth members in the areas of Lifesaving, Training, Leadership and Surf Sports.

His activities are not only confined to Sunday mornings as Louis offers youth members board training on Monday and Wednesday evenings. He is a dedicated Age Group Manager who deserves the title of Age Group Manager of the Year.

Sandy Clarke

Trainer of the Year

Sandy’s high-quality training draws on her 20 years of experience in Surf Life Saving.

She is able to contextualise training for her participants and, on the completion of their training, provide guidance on the pathways available to them.

Sandy provides ongoing support and mentoring for the Education Manager and the Club’s education portfolio. This year, Sandy has provided training to over 120 members in awards including Bronze Medallion, Surf Rescue Certificate, Nipper Rescue Certificate, Pain Management and Advanced Resuscitation Techniques.

Mullaloo SLSC

Woodside Nippers Club of the Year

One of the Club’s strategic goals is to enhance the membership experience and create a “one club” ethos. Mullaloo has strived hard to create this with a particular focus to increase parent involvement so that they felt part of the Woodside Nippers Program.

This award recognises the Club’s fabulous volunteers for all their effort and skill. We would like to thank all our Age Group Managers, Age Group Assistants, Coaches, Water Safety, First Aiders, the regular set up crew and of course all our Nipper parents/guardians.

Lastly, the award also celebrates the Nippers themselves for their time and dedication to having fun and learning valuable life skills.
