Surf Rescue Certificate – Junior Members 13–14 years

The Surf Res­cue Cer­tifi­cate (SRC) Course is con­ducted at surf life­sav­ing clubs along the West Aus­tralian coast.

The Surf Res­cue Cer­tifi­cate is the very first stage of becom­ing a life­saver. Whether you plan to patrol, or even com­pete in surf sports, there are plenty of oppor­tu­ni­ties and a vari­ety of chal­lenges within a surf club:

  • To assist your club with com­mu­nity ser­vice via patrolling our beaches
  • Develop team build­ing skills
  • Help­ing with water safety at car­ni­vals and surf club events
  • For U/13 – U/14’s who par­tic­i­pate in Senior surf life­sav­ing com­pe­ti­tions, the SRC is a require­ment, along with min­i­mum patrol hours to com­pete at local and state competitions/carnivals
  • For par­ents to par­tic­i­pate in their chil­drens’ Nip­per activ­i­ties (pro­vid­ing water safety)

Course prerequisites

  • Finan­cial mem­ber of a surf life­sav­ing club
  • Min­i­mum of 13 years of age on the date of final assess­ment
  • Be able to swim 200m in less than five min­utes (time to be signed off by an autho­rised per­son)

Course outcomes

  • Com­plete a 100m Run, 100m Swim, 100m run in less than five min­utes
  • Per­form a board and tube res­cue of a con­scious and uncon­scious patient
  • Per­form basic first aid
  • Per­form resus­ci­ta­tion and patient assess­ment
  • Com­mu­ni­cate on Patrol via sig­nals

Mem­bers are required to requal­ify this award annu­ally. Requal­i­fi­ca­tions take around 2–3 hours to com­plete.
