Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate

The aim of the Advanced Resus­ci­ta­tion Tech­niques Cer­tifi­cate course is to develop your skills and knowl­edge to use oxy­gen, air­way man­age­ment devices, auto­mated exter­nal defib­ril­la­tors dur­ing resus­ci­ta­tion and to admin­is­ter oxy­gen to casu­alties.

Course prerequisites

  • Finan­cial mem­ber of Mul­laloo Surf Life Sav­ing Club
  • Age at least 15 years of age on the date of final assess­ment
  • Hold ONE of the fol­low­ing SLSA awards: Bronze Medal­lion, Basic Emer­gency Care, Apply (Senior) First Aid or Resus­ci­ta­tion Cer­tifi­cate

Course outcomes

By the end of this course, the can­di­date should be able to:

  • Assess the casu­alty and develop a man­age­ment plan
  • Check defib­ril­la­tion equip­ment
  • Attach and oper­ate a defib­ril­la­tor
  • Recover and restore defib­ril­la­tion equip­ment
  • Check resus­ci­ta­tion equip­ment
  • Resus­ci­tate a casu­alty using oxy­gen
  • Use oxy­gen to provide ther­apy
  • Recover and restore oxy­gen equip­ment
  • Main­tain an air­way by:
    – using oropha­ryn­geal air­ways (OP air­ways)
    – using suc­tion


Can­di­dates will be assessed for com­pe­tence in the fol­low­ing ways:

  • Com­ple­tion of the ARTC Work­book
  • Com­pe­tence demon­strated in prac­ti­cal (skills) sce­nar­ios



Mem­bers are required to requal­ify this award annu­ally. Requal­i­fi­ca­tions take around 2–3 hours to com­plete and are con­ducted at the club.
