Surf Boat Interstates

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

Our Big Rigs (U19 Male: Tyler Nuku, Sean Coventry, Luke Triston, Isaac Crothers) and Neptune’s Daughters (U19 Female: Elise Dagnia, Anna Gregson, Sophie Hummerston, Ciera Madden) surf boat crews competed at the Australian Surf Rowers League Australian Open and represented WA in the inter-State Challenge on 15–17 February. They both placed 4th in their individual age group State v State race and competed admirably in the youth and all categories relay races.

On the Saturday in the Club v Club competition, Neptune’s Daughters made a good showing but were hampered by a shoulder injury.

The Big Rigs rowed exceptionally well to make it through to the Sunday knock out series but a bout of gastro for three of the rowers meant they barely made it to the start line and ‘gassed out’ by the gate cans in their first elimination round. Both crews showed their high quality wave skills in what was again an epic swell at Elouera Beach NSW.

Shout out to Louise Nuku, Gail Triston and Sophie Hummerston in organising the variety of fundraising efforts that the crews have been involved in.

Thanks to the North Cottesloe and City of Perth crews for their support on the beach shifting boats – great camaraderie! Thanks to the parents for the support on and off the beach also!

Thanks to the Club for their support of these fine young rowers who exemplified Club pride throughout the tour. Thank you Stuart Clarke who coached, swept and guided both the crews throughout the season.
