New Shirt - Long Sleeve version

New Shirt — Long Sleeve version

What a fantastic evening we all had on Friday 3 November! Cindy de Bomford and Penny Fortmann have been working hard in the Mullaloo Surf Shop, culminating in a fashion show which ended with a big reveal of the NEW CLUB SHIRT! The shirt comes in long sleeve polo, short sleeve polo, T-shirt and singlet versions. There is room on the back and right chest to personalise them – you’ll see the Age Group Managers soon with their ones on soon! Be sure to check them out, the shirt is scheduled to be used for the next 3 seasons, so you will get great value and there is nothing more supporting and pride giving than to all be seen in the New Club shirt!

Thanks to all our fashion models who looked awesome on the night — nothing like a catwalk to bring out the hidden talent of some of our strutting Zoolander members! Gear changes were made possible with the assistance of Alex Schaub, Angela Schipper, Rachel Chalada and Rachel Kremer. Thanks to all the helpers Paul and Jack Beattie, Nissa Bartlay, Elise and Zoey Morris, Cindy de Bomford, Penny Fortmann, Amanda Davies, Calven, Kerry Snow, Rachel Chalada, Julie Rapley, Rob McGregor, Sandy Clarke, Glenda Shulz in setting up, cooking, selling and serving the food, serving at the bar, packing up and thank you Jeff Davidson for your MC time and frivolity with humour 😉

Youth South West Camp a hit!

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017

The 2017 Youth South West Camp was an exciting adventure for all. This year the camp was opened to the Under 14’s as well and so we had 44 hikers in total. We arrived at the Surf Club at 6am ready for the journey ahead.  Once we had reached the Margaret River Region we set off for a short 6km walk along a spectacular coastline before heading to camp for a delicious meal of Spag Bol.

Throughout the duration of the camp we walked a fair chunk of the coast, even abseiling the Wilyabrup Sea Cliffs. Repelling down the 15 and 40 metre rock faces pushed many of us past our comfort zones and was a great bonding experience. The views were spectacular and we were able to see many dolphins and whales.

On the final day half of the group went to Giants Cave whilst the other half went to Calgardup Cave.  An impromptu rave party was enjoyed by all!

We were all challenged physically and mentally throughout the camp and I think we can all agree that this has not only strengthened our friendships but it has also created new ones.

I would like to give a huge thank you to the adults that came on the camp for not only putting up with us but for looking after us, setting up for us, cooking for us, the list goes on. We are all so grateful for the time you have given up to take us on this adventure.

– Taj Hawke

SW-Youth-Camp

Just a few thank yous for some behind the scenes preparation for the Camp: thank you Guy Edwards and Jim Baker for prepping the camp trailer, sorting through the tents and repairs; thanks to our bus drivers Anne-Marie Widermanski and Steve Mignon (also, thanks Steve for organising the loan of the 4WD from Toyota); thanks Mark Cleary for the shopping, trek plans and camp support; thanks also to our walkers and camp supporters Phil and Tracey Bartlett and Rob Amos — it was a great team effort all round.

Thank you to our camp leaders Taj Hawke and Lillyan Rosich for your guidance and assistance along with fellow 2nd and 3rd year campers – with our 2017 camp group.

All members welcome – 7pm on Wednesday 12 July

Curious about the direction our Club is heading in? Would you like to shape and deliver our Club’s future?

Mullaloo SLSC flagIf so, we’d love you to attend the Future Leaders Forum – a discussion about the future of our Club and how you can contribute.

These positions will be officially appointed following the AGM and, together, we’ll set and deliver the plan for developing our Club.

So, if you’re interested in an official management position, or would like to understand and shape the Club’s focus in the coming years, please put the evening of Wednesday 12 July into your diary.

You will hear about our current position and performance as well as exploring our future direction, including:

  • The Board’s review of our Club’s strategic plan

We will be gathering at the Club from 6.30pm for a 7pm start and aiming to finish by 8.30pm.

Hollywood meets Mullaloo Awards Night 2017

Friday, June 16th, 2017

Our Hollywood meets Mullaloo Annual Awards Dinner was held on Saturday 6 May in our red carpeted, Hollywood themed Club Lounge. The Hollywood theme was a big success with notable celebrities, Audrey Hepburn aka Councillor Philippa Taylor, Darth Vader/Superman aka President Stuart Clarke and our super styled members!

We would like to recognise the many members that contributed to a successful evening, their outstanding achievements during this year and the award nominees and winners.

Firstly, big thanks to Paul “JP” Dooley for leading the delivery of a stellar Awards night. JP was ably assisted by a team of willing members including Penny Fortmann, Sandy Clarke, Stuart Clarke, Cindy de Bomford, Laurie Campbell, Noel Fortmann, Kirsten Fortmann, Sally Dooley, Dawn Jones, Ali Baker, Helen Grimes, Homi Dudha, Kirsten Dobson, Gemma Nicholson, Jeff Davidson, Lyn Brosens and Julie Rapley – a huge THANK YOU to you all!

This year it was decided to present service awards of 20 years or more at the Club’s Annual Award events. This year we celebrate several members who achieved those milestones and more!

Anne-Marie Widermanski was recognised for two 20 year service awards: 20 year Assessing Service Award and 20 year National Patrol Service Award an achievement that sees her recognised at Club, State and National level.

The following members were recognised for their 20 year National Patrol Service Award, yes, that is 20 years as a patrolling member:

Paul Bennett • Laurie Fossier-Mills • Mark Hills • Gregory Kelleher • Godfrey Lawson • Barbara Loudon • Paul Rustidge

Steve Dargie, Life Member, continues his long commitment to life saving in being awarded the 35 year National Patrol Service Award. Across the 35 years of patrol service, Steve has had a significant impact on the lives of those he has saved in the surf and on the beach. Can you imagine the generations who would have lived a very different life had Steve not been there to offer his surf life saving and first aid skills?

Mark Hills welcomed many of our Life Members to the stage — it has been some time since so many were in the same place — with a most fitting recognition to new Life Member — Guy EdwardsRead more about Guy Edwards service and achievements.
