President’s Christmas Message

Well it’s that time that comes around all too quickly every year, we’ve hit the midpoint in the season and Christmas is nearly upon us as the Club takes a well-earned break for a couple of weeks. The Ted Scott Marathon marked the end of competition at the weekend and huge congratulations to Harry Jones for taking the win, very closely followed by Soraya Lee as first female.

The Club has reached a milestone this season with over 2100 members registered which is an amazing statistic. Our patrols are in full swing, lifted by many newly qualified members and it’s great to know the public are in safe hands when visiting our amazing beach once again. Many courses have already taken place along with several skills maintenance sessions for existing award holders; thank you to the education team for making all this happen.

From a Woodside Nippers perspective, we now have over 660 kids wearing the new Sunday kit supplied by Woodside, all the way from Under 6 to Under 13. The kids all look fantastic in their new vests and caps and we are extremely grateful to Woodside for their investment this year. Our Woodside Nippers and Little Nippers have seen their first carnivals, for some of them this is the first time they have competed, and it’s been great to see everyone having so much fun.

Carnivals have already kicked off this year and it’s terrific to see so many of our members involved and achieving great results. The National Surf League has been a success and our WA representatives from the Club have been performing extremely well. Our state-based Surf League has also been a great success with one of our teams coming away with a fourth place in round one, which is huge achievement. There are still many more carnivals to come in the New Year!

From a Board perspective, we have set up several committees to get traction on key items, and we are also in the final stages of our future strategic plan that will be released to members next year. Our budgets are tracking well across the Club and the Board have decided on a number of items that will receive capital investments in the coming year (read more).

Finally I’d like to thank all our hardworking volunteers, without whom we would not achieve the amazing things we have this year including the near 4,500 patrol hours already. Additionally, our Management team, Executive Committee and of course my fellow Directors, thank you for all your hard work and input this year, we have achieved so much in a short time.

I’ll finish off by wishing you and your families a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year and I’ll see you on the beach in 2020 or a fun-packed remainder of the season!
