Volunteer of the Month — January

Sponsors Edith Cowan University are supporting a Volunteer of the Month recognition initiative with our Club … January stars are: Rob McGregor, Julie Rapley and Sandy Clarke.

Rob McGregor – Rob has been a stalwart volunteer on our beach for many, many years working tirelessly in our beach set up crew, turning up week in week out regardless of the weather on a Sunday morning to prepare the beach for club day.  Without volunteers like Rob our club day simply could not go ahead.

He has also been a regular volunteer as bar staff, for what seems like forever- and is now one of our registered Managers, which helps support the club’s social events.

Julie Rapley – The organisation of the Nippers Carnival on 20th January was an absolutely mammoth task which Julie approached with her usual infectious enthusiasm and great attention to detail. The effort and hours involved in coordinating the Event Management Plan and pulling together the huge team of volunteers required for every aspect of the carnival, was absolutely enormous.

Sandy Clarke – Sandy was instrumental in securing for Mullaloo the inaugural “club run” carnival with SLSWA. We were the guinea pigs for a new model for organising carnivals, in which individual clubs will take responsibility for all aspects of running carnivals and in return for their efforts, receive the competitor entry fees.

Sandy demonstrated an amazing level of commitment, together with Julie and a host of other volunteers, to pull together a highly successful event ‚which has reaped great benefit to the club and demonstrated that the new model can work.
