South West Youth Camp a hit!

What an awesome Youth Camp we had this year – 50 youth (13–16yrs) and 9 team leaders!

Our campers enjoyed abseiling, caves, team building challenges, hot cooked dinners, camp fires, friendships, mostly fine weather and dare I say it, walking sections of the Cape-to-Cape!!

Thanks Mandy Lee, Julie Rapley and ECU students Tayla Nash and Kate Rogers for helping clean up and check over all the tents pre-camp.

A big shout out to Mark Cleary and Jim Baker for driving up on the Tuesday to set up our base and pass on some much valued intel on how to actually do it for future! With over a decade of camps under their belts, it’s been an awesome setup each year, from cook ups to charging stations – the camps would not have been complete without them.

Thanks to Mandy Lee for organising the buses, accommodation, cave bookings and the extra tent and seat purchases.

Thanks to our newbie team leaders Emma Bamforth and Clayton Millar — with a simple “you’re OK to walk with the group” which quite literally meant just that! Top effort from their encouragement and compassion for some, at times quite needed motivation along the walks — well done! Trevor Bulley also a newbie to the camp provided his vehicle for use and a you-beaut telescope that the campers were able to view Saturn and the like through! Rob Amos returned this year and towed the gear trailer for us, his contribution and humour well valued by the group. Our Bus drivers this trip were returning Anne-Marie Widermanski and new to the camp Phill Dee, transporting the campers to and from the various activities safely and efficiently. Both Phill and Trevor also managed a few walks in there also. I’d like to mention these two members who were also part of our team leader group — Jett Mitchell and Ashlyn Bulley. Having attended the camp in previous years as campers – this year going the extra step to give back as camp leaders ably assisted by fellow youth camp veterans (ha ha, sounds kind of weird calling 16 year olds vets!!) Ellie Marlow and Aaron Gigney — their youth, guidance and enthusiasm were tremendously received and appreciated by all.
