Aussies – Certificate II compliance

Calling all Bronze Medallion members intending to compete at any Australian Surf Life Saving Championships event…

Check whether your personal record shows you have attained the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue). This was included in the Bronze Medallion until around five years ago, so members holding this award do not need to take any further action (provided they are proficient for this season).

A Workshop was be held at the club on Sunday 18 March, at 3pm, for Bronze Medallion (BM) qualified members needing their Certificate II. Members requiring recognition of prior learning (RPL) will need to attend and complete the documentation. It is anticipated this session would not take longer than two (2) hours – this will depend on numbers attending.

Patrol Captains will be invited to attend, as there is a section that requires completion by the member’s Patrol Captain.

Certificate IV TAE (SLSA Assessors) will also be in attendance so they can assist with completion of the paperwork.

It is important that this RPL process is completed as planned – to allow SLSWA time to process the paperwork and issue the required certification.

Each person needs to bring along:

  • A printout of your Awards List from the SurfGuard database – via your Member Portal account
  • A printout of your patrols – recommend you do this for the current season, as well as last season – via your Member Portal account

Additional evidence required includes:

  • Evidence of completing a Gear and Equipment check; this can be simulated at the Workshop, provided your Patrol Captain can sign off on it (you could copy the whole Patrol Log for your last patrol)
  • Evidence of completing an Incident Report form – this will be simulated in the Workshop for reasons of confidentiality (a form will be provided).

Please contact the Education Manager if you have any queries (0438 759 923, or courses email), otherwise we shall see you at the Workshop.
