2018 SLSWA Youth Achiever Award Winner

Ava BushbyThe Youth Achiever Award is a SLSWA award, given to one youth member (U14 or U15) from each club in WA.

We had four nominees this year, coming in from various different areas of the club including surf sports, life saving and general club areas.

The award criteria include things such as:

  • Striving to achieve to the best of your ability
  • Team Spirit and camaraderie
  • Self-motivation
  • Respect for others
  • Being a positive role model for peers and younger members
  • Having a positive attitude to club activities

PARTICIPATION

  • Competition

We congratulate all of the nominees – Harriet Brown, Zara Martin, India-Rose Sheppard and Ava Bushby – and would like to announce that Ava Bushby is the recipient of this year’s award.

Ava is a very genuine, well mannered young lady. Her reliability has seen her promoted to Vice Captain of her patrol at just 15. She participated in R&R (where she also mentors younger athletes), March Past, Pool Rescue and Beach events and although not as confident in her own ability in water events, never hesitates to step up and fill in or help out when needed, especially in team events. She has just competed her IRB Crew award and immediately volunteered for the Abalone patrol in this capacity.
