skills-maintSkills Maintenance

The annual Skills Maintenance program is well under way with three sessions already completed and good numbers attending each. Thank you everyone for coming along, we trust you have found the program helpful in providing opportunities for you to update/refresh your knowledge and skills.
Thank you to the awesome team of Trainers, Assessors and assistants who help make the program work, specifically….Lloyd Brosens, Lyn Brosens, Laurie Campbell, Sandy Clarke, Guy Edwards, Simon Gidley, Barbara Loudon, Jacquie McGregor, Ed Neilan, Anne-Marie Widermanski and Anna Young who have been involved with the program to date. A special thank you to Education Administrators extraordinaire – Amanda Lambert and Chrissie Payne.

There are a couple of changes for the next few dates – the session on Wednesday 18 October has been cancelled. The session on Saturday 21 October will comprise both Dry and Wet sessions and will still start at 1pm sharp. Please arrive 15 minutes prior, so sign on and group assignments can be completed. Hopefully we shall have enough Trainers and Assessors to complete the program by 4pm. Again, the focus is on updating, then applying the key knowledge and skills in a range of scenarios.

The following week will see the Dry session changed to Thursday 26 October, commencing at 6pm – we shall have more space for this one! The final scheduled Wet session is Saturday 4 November, starting at 8am.

Members who are unable to make the scheduled dates should advise proficiency@mullaloosurf.com.au as soon as possible, so we can make additional plans. Remember – the Trainers and Assessors attend multiple sessions and will be busy in the period leading up to Christmas as the squads will be due for assessment.

Bronze Medallion program

Both Bronze 1 and Bronze 2 groups have been formed, with the Bronze 1 group all successfully completing their qualifying swim on Saturday 14 October and beginning their program on Monday 16 October. Registrations for the Bronze 2 group is now closed and they are not far behind, with both groups being finished before Christmas.

Nipper Rescue Certificate (NRC)

SLSWA launched the Nipper Rescue Certificate on 4 October and interest for this additional water safety qualification has been substantial. The program is an introduction to providing water safety for our future lifesavers, and may be a pathway to gaining further awards as both interest and ability are developed. The single session, three hours long course begins next Saturday, 21 October, commencing at 8am sharp on our own beautiful beach. 47 members have expressed their interest and arrangements for the first program will be finalized over the next few days with an email being sent to those who have expressed interest.

This is also a call for Trainers and Assessors to assist with delivery of this totally practical program – please advise your ability to assist via the Courses email

Not sure if this is a program for you? Come down and watch – and you may change your mind!
Another NRC course will be run in the near future.
