| Mullaloo Surf Lifesaving Club is a very large club situated in the northern suburbs of Perth. We work in a very close relationship with the City of Joondalup and Surf Lifesaving Western Australia to provide a lifesaving service for 6 months of the year. Our patrol season starts on the first weekend of October and continues until the last weekend in March. We patrol each weekend and public holidays as well. Xmas day is the exception where it is voluntary patrol. (I must say it has proven to be the most popular patrol of the whole season!). There is a midweek lifeguard on duty from 0600 to 1800 hours each weekday during the hotter months from December to March. Voluntary patrol times vary because of demand and weather patterns and the months of the season.
Our area of patrol is 4.7 kms of beach from Pinnaroo Point to the south and Mullaloo Point to the north of the club rooms.
Every proficient bronze medallion (BM) holder is allocated to a patrol and it is his or her obligation to be part of a patrol once gaining his or her lifesaving award. Some members have earned the right to not have to attend patrols. This means they have completed at least 10 years of active patrol service to have this exemption. This is a fantastic achievement.
It is a requirement from SLSA that if youre aged between 15 years to 28 years you have to obtain your bronze and complete patrols to be a member of the association.
We have 11 patrols that provide the service to the community. Our patrol captains are Chez Astone, Estelle Bradley, Barbara Carter, Ric Corkill, Steve Dargie, Tony Greenfield, Chris Hainsworth, Peter Kokkeler, Andrew Manning, Kathryn Murray and Carl Young. These highly experienced and skilled lifesavers are responsible of the safety of beach patrons each rostered patrol session with a dedicated group of lifesavers. Each patrol is allocated 9 or 10 rostered patrols for the whole season.
Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) holders of which there is many are only allocated to a patrol by request. Some SRCs gained their award to help provide water safety for the juniors on a Sunday morning and at junior carnivals, which is fabulous.
Our patrol lists are on the website as is our patrol roster. Please check to see which patrol you are on. Your captain will also contact you to remind you of your patrol duties. This season you will be given a card with your patrol dates and times and relevant contact details. It is important that if you cant meet your patrol obligations you need to let your patrol captain know or contact the Director of Lifesaving Services for Mullaloo rbcarter@bigpond.net.au. It is expected that you complete at least 24 of your rostered hours of patrol over the season and to obtain a financial reward you need to complete a minimum of 32 hours of patrol.
Last season we as a club completed over 8500 hours of voluntary patrols. A fabulous effort, especially as our responsibilities are stretched over such a distance.
So please join us on the beach in the red and yellow.
