Coaching Policy

Commenced from October 2010

The Board of the Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club endorse the following policy for coaching of club members:

  • All coaches are to be appropriately accredited e.g. Working with Children Check, Surf Coach accreditation. Where possible, the club will assist coaches to gain and enhance their accreditation and skills. Trainers operating under the instruction of a coach will also be supported to enhance their skills and encouraged to seek accreditation.
  • A clear chain of command will be established for coaches within the club. Coaches will be designated responsibility for selecting competitors to participate in training and competition. Sign‑off protocols for payment of incentives to coaches will also be established.
  • Leaders of coaching activities within the club (such as Director of Competition, Director of Juniors, Boat Captain, Head Ski Coach, etc) must submit to the Director of Coaching a written Coaching Service Proposal outlining the coaching service they intend to offer club members. This proposal will be assessed by the Director of Coaching and the Director of Competition or Director of Juniors to confirm:

-   club’s formal endorsement of the service offer;
-   resources the club should apply to the area (e.g. budget, coaches, equipment, access to club facilities); and
-   communication support to be provided.

  • A Coaching Service Proposal should be submitted to the Director of Coaching before offering the training and whenever any substantial aspect of the training changes.
  • The Director of Coaching will decide the form of the Coaching Service Proposal
