Bronze Medallion
Certificate II in Public Safety – Aquatic Rescue
The Bronze course is usually run over a period of 6–8 weeks, involving both theory and practical sessions conducted at Mullaloo Surf Club. The final assessment may take place at a centralised location in conjuction with other Surf Clubs. Contact the Director of Education for more information.
Prerequisites
- Candidates must be a financial member of Mullaloo SLSC for the current season
- Candidates must be a minimum of 15 years old on the date of assessment
- Have completed a 400 metre swim in nine (9) minutes or less prior to commencement of course (signed and observed by an authorised club person). This can be done in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres, or over a measured open water course.
Course Outline
The following Units of Competency will be assessed and issued as the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) qualificiation:
- Follow defined OH&S policies and procedures
- Apply surf awareness
- Provide emergency care
- Communicate in the workplace
- Operate communication systems & equipment
- Participate in an aquatic rescue operation
- Work effectively in a public safety organisation
- Work in a team
Assessment
During the Final Assessment, you will be required to demonstrate the following:
- 200m Run — 200m Swim — 200 Run in under eight (8) minutes
- Demonstrate Radio Operations
- Demonstrate Basic First Aid
- Demonstrate 10 Signals
- Demonstrate Lifts & Carries
- Demonstrate Board and Tube Rescues
- Demonstrate Spinal Management
- Demonstrate Resuscitation & Defibrillation
Requalification
Members are required to requalify this award annually. Requalifications take around 2–3 hours to complete and are conducted at the club.
