All Ter­rain Vehi­cle Oper­a­tor Certificate

We endeav­our to pro­vide par­tic­i­pants with the skills and knowl­edge to oper­ate an All Ter­rain Vehi­cle (ATV) in a safe and effi­cient manner.

Pre­req­ui­sites

Can­di­dates must be a finan­cial mem­ber of Mul­laloo SLSC for the cur­rent season.

Can­di­dates must be at least 17 years of age by the date of the last assessment.

Can­di­dates must hold a cur­rent and valid state dri­vers licence. A cur­rent licence check clear­ance must also be pro­vided to reg­is­ter for this course.

Can­di­dates must be cur­rently pro­fi­cient in at least one other surf award.

Course Out­line

Pre­pare an ATV vehi­cle for oper­a­tional response, including:

  • under­stand­ing per­sonal pro­tec­tive equip­ment requirements
  • under­stand­ing the vehi­cle controls
  • main­tain­ing the vehi­cle by com­plet­ing pre and post oper­a­tional checks
  • load­ing vehi­cle safely with appro­pri­ate res­cue equipment
  • under­stand­ing rel­e­vant laws, reg­u­la­tions and guidelines

Drive the vehi­cle in suit­able ter­rain demon­strat­ing low risk dri­ving tech­niques and safe prac­tice, including:

  • obey­ing man­u­fac­turer and SLSA guide­lines, safety pre­cau­tions and speed limits
  • mon­i­tor­ing and eval­u­at­ing traf­fic, road and ter­rain under oper­a­tional conditions
  • man­ag­ing haz­ards and risks
  • select­ing the safest and most effi­cient route of travel

Assess­ment

Assess­ment is through demon­stra­tion, pre­sen­ta­tion and appli­ca­tion of all ele­ments of com­pe­tency in the work­place. Par­tic­i­pants will be required to com­plete activ­i­ties that may include role-plays, oral and writ­ten ques­tion­ing, prac­ti­cal demon­stra­tions and per­form­ing scenarios.

Requal­i­fi­ca­tion

For this award to remain cur­rent can­di­dates must per­form an annual pro­fi­ciency check, or as needed / requested. If a candidate’s state driver’s license lapses or is can­celled, they are then con­sid­ered to be non-proficient in this award and must com­plete pro­fi­ciency when they regain their state driver’s license
