The 2012 Naked Bean Surf Craft Challenge – Albany SLSC

Saturday 2 June to Monday 4 June – Foundation Day Long Weekend

The event involves the following:

• Surf Boats – Open, Mens, Womens, 160, 200+
• Skis – Single Male/Female U19, Open, 40+, Teams
• Skis Double – Male / Female / Mixed
• 2km beach run – Male/Female U14, U19, Open, 40+;
• IRB racing;
• Saturday afternoon may have modified Ironman team relay races …

We have produced a short 10 question survey (should take less then 5 minutes to complete) that we would like as many volunteers to answer as possible.  A review of the results will be discussed at the upcoming lifesaving advisory forum on May 19th.

Thank you to all who attended.

Stellar performances over the two hot days saw Mullaloo dethroning perennial champions, Trigg Island SLSC after fifteen years of unbroken dominance. The tightly fought competition saw Mullaloo’s juniors compile a highlight reel of successes carrying the club over the line by just nineteen points. This result provided Mullaloo with the first Surf Lifesaving WA club championship since 1995 and the club’s second overall.

Mullaloo SLSC’s director of junior activities, Bret Madden, was thrilled with the combination of raw skill and fair play exhibited by the whole team. “We performed exceptionally well, both on and off the competition arena, with a number of notable displays of sportsmanship that draw the attention of both officials and competing clubs”, noted Mr Madden. “It is a testament to the age group managers and their assistants, coaches, officials and our army of volunteers that balance competitiveness with fairness that makes Mullaloo SLSC one of the clubs to watch”.

Standout performances were seen from all of the 116 Mullaloo junior competitors attending the carnival, including the newly crowned State champions:

• Under 14 Male Board Rescue — Jake Smith and Wes Gould
• Under 14 Female Beach Relay Team — Poppy Edmunds, Fiona Lipscombe, Maxine Singh and Steph Cooper
• Under 13 Male Surf Race — Kieran Pollard
• Under 13 Ironman — Kieran Pollard
• Under 13 Male Board Rescue — Kieran Pollard and James Newman
• Under 13 Male Cameron Relay Team — Wes Thomson, Kieran Pollard, Oscar Allen and Guillaume Delorme
• Under 13 Male Board Race — Wes Thomson
• Under 13 Female Beach Sprint — Amanda Odina
• Under 13 Female Beach Relay Team
• Under 12 Female Surf Race Team — Njirich/van Kampen/Roberts/Evans
• Under 12 Female Board Rescue — Lexi Njirich and Jessica Cant
• Under 11 Female Board Rescue — Lillyan Rosich and Chelsea Attwood
• Under 11 Male Beach Relay Team
• All Age Female Beach Sprint Team — Caitlin Knight, Jessica Cant, Amanda Odina and Poppy
