Surf Sports End of Season Wrap

The Summer competition season has now finished and what a season it has been. After having some great results at the State level, the Australian Championships have come to an end with the disappointment of water events being cancelled due to the remnants of Cyclone Debbie hitting the Gold Coast.

Over the last month or so, we have competed at the following State events:

  • First Aid Championships
  • R&R and Belt Racing Championships
  • Champion Lifesaver Championships
  • Masters Championships
  • Youth and Senior Championships

We had some fantastic results over each of our competitions winning Medals at all events and having some very good results. We finished 4th overall from all the competitions.

Individually there were some amazing results but none more than Ben Jones winning the Open Ironman event, a first for this Club, and Wes Ben Jones Open Iron ChampGould winning the Open Men’s Board and U/19 Men’s Board races, something that has not been done for a very long time at this Club. It shows that we have a very good coaching program that is bringing results for this Club.

For the Australian Championships, we had a very small group attending this year. Our competitors included, Neve MacLeod, Darcey Brooks, Cooper Schulz, Ben Jones, Harry Jones, Wes Gould, Brett Gould, Tayla Tenaglia and Josh Clarke. In the Youth Championships, we had some great efforts from our young competitors throwing everything they had into the tough competition. None more than Cooper Schulz who broke his wrist during the Flags competition. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back soon.

So, the competition does not finish there, with IRB Racing starting again in April and Pool Rescue starting in May. We look forward to good results in these areas too.

To wrap up the current season we will be holding the Surf Sports and Age Group Trophy Presentations for Beach, Water, Surf Boat, IRB competitors and to present the Club Day age group awards. The Trophy presentation will be held in the Club lounge at 4.00pm on Sunday 9th April 2017. All Youth and Senior members, partners and parents are welcome to attend, and we will put some food and drinks on at the presentation.
